Book Review: Six Suspects by Vikas Swaroop

I recently read Six Suspects by Vikas Swaroop and I have to admit that I had picked up this book only because I liked Vikas Swaroop's previous book Q & A. For all those who don't know, Q & A is the original story of Slumdog Millionaire. Six Suspects is not as good as Q & A, but it has its moments. Vikas has used a lot of real life incidents in this book, like the killing of black bucks by Salman Khan, the murder of Jessica Lal. The book starts of with the Vicky Rai, son of the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh killing a pretty bartender, who refused to serve him a drink after hours. After many years Vicky is acquitted in the murder case and he throws a lavish party at his farmhouse. Someone kills Vicky Rai in this party and the police find that six people in the party had guns and all six are held as suspects. The book proceeds with the six people narrating their end of the story and how they ended up in the party with guns. The six suspects include : Mohan Kumar who is possessed by the spirit of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a petty mobile thief who loves Vicky Rai's sister, an actress Shabnam Saxena, a Texas guy who wants to marry Shabnam,a tribal from Andaman islands who is in search of the sacred stone stolen from his land and finally the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh(father of Vicky Rai). I liked the book because as the story unfolds you understand that how the six suspects life are intermeshed with each other. The story drags a bit during the middle, I found the story of the Texas guy and the tribal to be kind of similar(it could have been shortened ). The story begins with an interesting start, bores you bit in the middle and then finshes off with a bang. During the ending the story picks up speed and endless twists leave you totally amazed. Definitely worth a read. A word of a caution though, try reading Q & A first, only if you like the first book read Six Suspects. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5.
